Day 1: Paro to Thimphu
Distance: 61 kms
Time : 1 hour
Elevation: 2200mtrs-2300mtrs
When you land in Paro airport,after clearing the custom you will be welcomed by our representative, guide and drive who will escort you throughout the trip. Driving from Paro to Thimphu, have a short walk towards the Tachogang ironbridge and the stupa which lies close by.
Drive ahead via Chuzom, at the confluence stop to have look at the three different stupas that represents the different architecture of the three different countries, Nepali, Tibetan & Bhutanese respectively from left to right.
After reaching in Thimphu, visit the Memorial Chorten built in 1974 by the Queen mother to commemorate the Death Anniversary of the third king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Especially in the morning and evening most of the baby boomers and lots of older generations circumambulate the stupa to pay homage & to gain spiritual merits.
Drive towards the Kuenselphodrang where it you can see the 169 feet tall of sitting Buddha statue made of bronze and overview of the Thimphu valley.
Visit the mini zoo to have a look at the endangered species named the Takin which is the national animal of Bhutan and weighs up to 450 kilograms.
Trashichhodzong (the place of glorious religion), which host the seat throne of the King and the head offices of Bhutan. We follow the dual system of Government, the political government and the religious government.
The centenary farmers market has the display of various things from all over the country where vendors gather to get their organic vegetables.
Day 2: Thimphu to Punakha
Distance : 78 kms
Time : 3-4 hours
Elevation: 2300mtrs-3100mtrs-1300mtrs
As you journey to Punakha ( 1300 meters), you will notice something that you are again going to visit more of Bhutan’s places of Happiness. As you ascend through the vegetation and houses till you reach the Dochula pass (3100 m). If the candy like clouds are away from the mountains we have the snow capped Himalayan Ranges of Bhutan which is more than 7000 meters. As you descend towards Punakha you start to feel the warm air caressing your face. Our small suburb area divides the road to Punakha and Wangduephodrang, left and right respectively.
Hike up to the Chimmi Lhakhang or the Fertility temple known from the legends of the Great Lam Drukpa Kuenley or the Divine Madman in the 15th century. He was known for his teachings in a hilarious ways. The stories where couples are not able to have children comes to this place and receive blessings with the Phallus, finally the result is positive of having a newborn child.
After lunch drive to Punakha Dzong, before reaching there is a view point of the splendid architecture of the Dzong located in between the two rivers Pho chu (male) to the right and Mo chu (female) connected by a cantilever bridge.
Try out the suspension bridge which is almost 400 meters long located at the Male river which connects to the district called Mendagang.
Day 3: Punakha to Paro
Distance : 130 kms
Time: 3-4 hours
Elevation: 1300mtrs-3100mtrs-2300mtrs-2200mtrs
In the morning drive to Paro via Dochula pass. While reaching Park visit the national Museum or Ta Dzong, which was used as a watch tower to spot the enemies and to watch over the valley in the 17th century.
Visit the Paro Dzong which was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal ( the unifier of Bhutan) and who also introduced the dual system of Government, I.e. Political and religious government.
The Ta Dzong now holds the prehistoric stories of Bhutan and the natural biodiversity. Before in the 17th century it was used as a watch tower to protect the valley from invaders.
Later in the afternoon visit the 8th century temple, Kichu Lhakhang built by the Tibetan King Songsten Goenpo to subjugate the ogress who was harming the people and the spread of Buddhism in the Himalayan countrys. So he built 108 temples on the body. These temple was built on the left knee of the ogres.
In the evening stroll around the town area.
Day 4: Paro to Tigers nest or Taktshang
Distance : 5-6 kms
Time : 5-6 hours
Elevation: 2200mtrs- 3100mtrs
Its better to start early in the morning as the weather would favourable at this time. The history says that when Guru Padmasambhava or the second Budhha came riding on the back of the Tigress being his consort as a immediate response to subdue the local deity named Shelging Karpo. Here in this place the Guru Padmasambhava meditated for three months and left the body imprint in the cave. Only once in a year the cave is displayed to people who comes to pay homage and the line looks like a colourful snake all the way to Tiger’s nest.
After the hike it would be better to get a hot stone bath which is a way of natural healing practised by the people till today.
Day 5: Paro to Paro airport
Distance : 5-6 kms
Time : 20 minutes
Elevation :2200mtrs
As saying goes ” you came as a guest to our country and become friends with lots of joy and finally when you depart from Bhutan, you leave as a family.”
